XIX century portrait, oil painting - before cleaning
Half of the oil painting is cleaned.
This old oil painting was relined and restored previously. The canvas has been deteriorating, the paints were flaking, and the old patches were bulging.
In the process of restoration - oil painting is relined and missing areas of the old canvas are filled with new patches.
Oil painting - after relining, patching, retouching and varnishing.
We restore all types of ceramics such as Earthenware, Stoneware, Pottery, Porcelain, and Bone China, and we take different approach in selecting materials and techniques for repair of each particular type. For example, the porous body of Earthenware objects requires caution with cleaning and gluing because some chemicals and even water can penetrate the clay and make irreversible damage to this precious item. Objects made of Stoneware and Pottery are glued with suitable adhesive formulated for soft paste bodies, other than for Porcelain and Bone China. The choice of paints and glazes also depends on the ceramics type. Touch-up with paints should be minimized when dealing with porous and non-fired objects.
In our restoration studio we use compatible and reversible synthetic materials. The invisible restoration is possible only for fired, glazed objects. In this case we finish the repaired area with matching paint and clear coating (matte or gloss) that is applied over the original glazed surface. We strive to keep integrity of your heirloom or collectible and do not use over painting and destructive techniques such as making groves for chipped areas or grinding the edges of misaligned parts. If the previously repaired item is not glued right, we can remove the old glue and reassemble it. Unfortunately we have seen so many art objects with grinded surfaces and scratched original glazes by using regular sand paper instead of glass sand paper. Nothing can be more disappointing than to see the fine item damaged by unprofessional attempt to repair it.
If you have a damaged and valuable for you figurine, vase, or bowl, please do not glue it yourself but let us restore it. We will bring your treasure back to life!

We repair Waterford, Swarovski, Steuben, Baccarat, Lalique, Art Deco, Murano, and other decorative glassware.
In our studio we offer grinding chips and polishing the rims on glass and crystal goblets and vases. The height of the item will be lower to the size of the deepest chip on the rim.
Broken items can be assembled using clear adhesive that is not yellowing with time. Small missing areas can be reconstructed with clear resin. The invisible repair of glass objects is not possible due to transparency of the material, but the lines will be very thin and not very noticeable, especially in crystal.
We also repair painted glass globes with good results. The restored area will be darker if you look at it through the light, otherwise it will be not visible.
We are specialized in restoration and cleaning of oil painting on canvas and board support.
Cleaning is the most common demand for oil paintings due to the darkened varnish. This is a time consuming job and requires different chemical products suitable for each specific painting. The cost of cleaning, or varnish removal, can be determined only after testing a small area of painting. The final step of cleaning is applying a new synthetic varnish that will not yellow with time and protect the painting from dust and dirt.
Damaged canvas can be repaired by patching or relining depending on the size of the damaged area. Small tears or holes we repair with patch on the back side of the painting. If canvas support is fragile and deteriorated we usually reline the entire painting by adhering it onto a new support.
The materials that we use are reversible, and retouching is limited to the areas of paint loss.
We also repair picture frames made of wood or plaster. Small areas of missing gold can be touched up with gilding cream for less expensive repair than traditional gilding.
